The first Quarter NAS Medical mission will be held in Otor Ogor township in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State on the Friday 2nd November 2018. Otor Ogor is few minutes drive from Ughelli the Headquarter of Ughelli North LGA and about 30 minutes from Warri where the quarterly meeting of NAS is taking place.
The Traditional Leader of the community is His Royal Majesty Okiemute Onajite Igere 1, the Ovie of Ogor. The Ogor community has an estimated population of 3 – 4000 people and it is a community made up of four settlements of Oviri Ogor, Otor Ogor, Edjekota and Owhodokpokpor.
The community is served by a Primary Health Care center at Otor Ogor and information from the Health Center shows that the common ailment of inhabitants are malaria, arthritis, skin diseases, peptic ulcers, Hypertension and Diabetes mellitus. Patients with Diabetes and Hypertension are referred to the General Hospital in Ughelli for proper management.
The venue of the Medical mission is the Ogor community town hall in Otor Ogor. The choice of the venue was by the Ovie of Ogor who is looking forward to the mission being the first of its kind in the community. He told a team that went on a scoping mission that he will activate all the community town announcers to mobilize the community for the mission.
The NAS medical mission in Ogor is expected to offer the community free medical consultation backed with sound Laboratory services as well as free ophthalmic care. The Delta State Primary Health Care Development Agency is using the opportunity of the medical mission in delivering other maternal and child survival interventions. The LGA Executive Secretary/Medical Officer of Health – Dr Johnson Uyovwiesevba appreciated the collaboration and the opportunity NAS Medical Mission is providing in rendering health care services to the community and has directed Primary Health Care workers of LGA to be available during the mission and even promised to assist in conjunction with His Royal Majesty the mobilization of the community for the outreach using various traditional and mainstream media.
Common disease conditions to be handled during the free medical outreach include; Hypertension, Diabetes, Arthritis, skin and bacteria infections, duodenal and peptic ulcers, deworming and immunization of children as well as full ophthalmic services with free eye glasses. The Free Medical mission in Ogor community will afford NAS the opportunity of meeting some of the Medical needs of the community by using the vast human resources of the organization in diagnosing, treating of common medical ailments in the community. It is a service in bringing succor to the less privileged in the society.
